I really enjoy the musical performances at the Christmas eve service. I was very dissapointed to learn that we were not to clap at the end of the performances in '06. The musicians practice on their own time and provide some amazing music for worship. It is dissapointing to learn that we cannot not show apreciation through applause.
I just saw the comment about applause. As a longtime choir member, most of us are singing to enhance the worship service and for the glory of God. For some anthems applause flows naturally, some demand silence afterwards. What we would like is an act of worship. Most of us are not thinking of the music as a performance, but as prayer, sermon, scripture, etc. Especially in services that will be running long, saving your applause until you can see some of the performers in person is the best way to show your appreciation.
